Hiriketiya has definitely become more popular, but it is still a fantastic place to swim. The bay is protected, making the water extremely calm and safe for families.

During peak season in January, the beach can feel a bit crowded with surfers on the outer break, but the inside swimming area remains very relaxed and accessible.

If you find it too busy, you can simply walk over the headland to Dickwella beach, which is massive and usually completely empty.
