If you want to avoid the aggressive sales tactics of the large spice gardens on the main Colombo to Kandy highway, visit the National Spice Garden in Matale instead.

You can also simply visit the bustling local markets in Kandy town to see raw spices being traded authentically by local merchants.

The National Spice Garden is government run. You pay a standard entrance fee, get an incredibly educational tour about how spices are grown and processed, and there is zero pressure to buy anything at the end.
