Visiting Sera Ella directly from Colombo is possible but makes for a very long day trip. You must drive towards Kurunegala and then navigate the winding, incredibly scenic roads of the Knuckles Mountain Range towards Laggala.

It is much more enjoyable to base yourself in Kandy or Matale for a night. This allows you to explore the hidden cave behind the waterfall early in the morning before the long drive back to the capital.
