Bopath Ella is a spectacular waterfall shaped exactly like a sacred Bo leaf. Because it is so uniquely beautiful and easily accessible from Colombo, it becomes incredibly crowded with local tourists having picnics on weekends and public holidays.
Also, during the heavy rainy season, the water volume increases dramatically, changing the shape of the falls entirely and making swimming at the base highly dangerous due to flash floods.
If you want to experience the tranquil natural beauty of the falls and safely swim in the wide base pools without fighting for space, you absolutely must plan your visit for a weekday morning.
