Can I take my 9ft Longboard on the train to Weligama?
I'm traveling with my 9'2" surfboard. I want to take the coast train from Colombo to Weligama to save money on a taxi.
Is there a luggage car? Or can I just stand with it in the doorway? I don't want to get kicked off.

Taking a longboard on a Sri Lankan train is a logistical nightmare.
The Problem: The doors are narrow, the corridors are tiny, and the overhead racks are too small for boards.
The "Guard's Van": Theoretically, you can pay to put it in the "Baggage/Guard Car" at the back. However, you have to register it at the station parcel office 1 hour before, and they often refuse surfboards because they are "fragile" and they don't want the liability.
The Doorway: If you try to stand with it in the doorway, you block the exit. On the crowded coast line, passengers will get very angry with you.
Solution: Do not take the train. Hire a "Van Taxi" or use a service like "Uber Intercity" (select a van). Share the cost with other surfers. It is worth the $40 to not break your board or get shouted at.
