Is Nuwara Eliya safe to visit after the "Cyclone Ditwah" floods?

We are supposed to drive from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya tomorrow. I saw the UK/US travel advisories about "Cyclone Ditwah" causing landslides in Badulla and Nuwara Eliya last week (Jan 10-15).

Are the roads actually open? Is it safe, or should we cancel and stay on the coast?

This is the #1 question right now. The heavy rains from the cyclone have passed, but the ground is still saturated.

Road Status: The main A5 Road (Kandy-Nuwara Eliya) is open and safe. However, the smaller "back roads" (often suggested by Google Maps to save time) are dangerous and prone to earth slips. Stick to the main carpeted roads.

The Train: The railway line (Nanu Oya to Ella) is operating but with speed restrictions. Expect delays of 1-2 hours.

My Advice: Go ahead with the trip, but hire a local driver who knows the roads well. Do not try to self-drive a scooter in the hills this week.
