Recommendations for a good Ayurveda massage in Unawatuna? Avoid "shady" places!
My back is killing me from the flight and I want a traditional Ayurveda oil massage. I walked past a few places in Unawatuna that said "Massage," but they looked a bit... dark and unofficial.
How do I tell the difference between a legitimate Ayurvedic clinic and a place that offers "extras"? I want a therapeutic medical treatment.

This is a very valid concern. In beach towns, the word "Spa" is used loosely.
The Red Flags: If the "spa" has tinted black windows, neon lights open late at night, or girls sitting outside trying to lure men in, it is not an Ayurveda clinic.
The Real Deal: A legitimate Ayurveda center will usually have a doctor on site for a consultation (pulse reading) before they touch you. The smell should be of herbal oils (medicinal), not cheap incense.
What to look for: Look for terms like "Ayurveda Hospital," "Sanctuary," or "Retreat."
Recommendation: In Unawatuna/Galle, look for established places like Sanctuary Spa or hotel spas within 4/5-star properties (like Jetwing Lighthouse). They are more expensive but 100% professional and hygienic.
Deergayu Wellness is a small place but with good reviews.
Proper ayurvedic centers are hygenic and well maintained centers with trained staff. Please check google/ trip advisor reviews. Check the number of reviews and who have made those reviews. You can clearly identify the diiference between authentic reviews and fakes. Also check recent photos uploaded by reviewers.
legally, there should be registration certificate. Better if there is a doctor to examine you before suggesting treatments.
Don't Expect Thai/ Balinese massage.
Sri Lankan ayurvedic massages are different to east asian massages or to swedish massages. They use lot of herbal oil and prpare for that.
