What is the fair tuk-tuk fare from Colombo Fort station to Galle Face Green?
I'm arriving at Colombo Fort railway station and want to head to Galle Face Green for an evening walk. Every driver I've looked up online seems to quote wildly different prices. What is the actual fair price in 2025, and should I negotiate or just use PickMe? The distance looks short on Google Maps but I'm not sure if traffic makes a big difference.

The metered fare should be around LKR 150–250 for that route — it's only about 2 km but traffic at peak hours can make it a 15–20 minute ride.
Best options in order of reliability:
1. PickMe (local app, like Grab) — always use this. You'll pay exactly what's shown, no negotiation, driver-rated system. Fare for that route is typically LKR 180–220.
2. Uber — also works and comparable pricing.
3. Street tuk-tuk — if you negotiate, LKR 250–350 is fair. Start at 200 and don't go above 350. Never accept the first price yelled at you near the station exit (they often quote 1,000+ to arriving tourists).
Pro tip: Walk 100m away from the station entrance before flagging a tuk-tuk or opening the app. Drivers at station forecourts see tourists and inflate prices. The app will find you a driver quickly from a short distance.
Used PickMe for this exact route last month. Paid LKR 195, took about 12 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon. The driver was great. I highly recommend the app — no stress, no arguing, automatic receipt. Download it before you land, you can register with an international number.
Small addition: avoid tuk-tuks during Colombo rush hour (7:30–9 AM and 5–7 PM). In heavy traffic that short distance could take 40 minutes and cost more. Walking along Galle Road is actually pleasant in the evening and Galle Face Green is only about 25 minutes on foot from the Fort — if you have light luggage it's worth it.
