Ella Rock vs Little Adam's Peak — which hike should I prioritise if I only have one morning in Ella?

I'm spending two nights in Ella and have one free morning for a hike. Every source recommends both Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak but they seem to cater to different types of hikers.

1. What is the actual difficulty difference between the two?
2. How long does each take (realistic time, not the optimistic blog estimates)?
3. Which has better views and at what time of day?
4. Ella Rock requires navigating through tea estates with no clear trail — how do I avoid getting lost?
5. Is a guide necessary or recommended for either?
6. Can I combine both in one morning, or is that too much?

I'm moderately fit, used to hiking, but not doing anything technical.

Both hikes start from Ella town and both are worth doing, but they serve different purposes. Here is the honest comparison:

Little Adam's Peak:
- Distance/time: 1.5km one way, 45–60 minutes up, 30 minutes down
- Difficulty: Easy. Paved path for most of it, then a short rocky scramble at the top
- Views: Panoramic across the Ella Gap — 360-degree views of the valley, Ella Rock, and the surrounding tea estates. Spectacular.
- Best time: Sunrise (leave town at 5:30 AM) or late afternoon (4–5 PM)
- Getting lost: Essentially impossible — follow the path
- Crowds: Popular, gets busy by 8 AM

Ella Rock:
- Distance/time: 3.5km one way, 2–3 hours up, 1.5 hours down
- Difficulty: Moderate. You walk along the railway track, then through active tea estates with no clear signage. Several junctions where it's easy to take the wrong path.
- Views: The summit is forested — views are partial and only spectacular if you push to the actual summit rock. The approach through tea estates is beautiful.
- Getting lost: Yes, this is a real risk. The trail through the estates is marked by a series of painted rocks but they're easy to miss. A local guide (LKR 1,500–2,500) is genuinely recommended for a first visit.
- Crowds: Much quieter than Little Adam's Peak

If you only have one morning: Do Little Adam's Peak at sunrise — faster, easier, and the views are arguably better than Ella Rock's summit. If you have two mornings: Ella Rock for the experience (with a guide), Little Adam's Peak for the sunrise views.

Tried to do Ella Rock without a guide — spent 30 minutes going in circles in a tea estate before a worker pointed us back to the right path. Hired a guide at the guesthouse for the next morning (LKR 2,000 for two of us) and it was a completely different and enjoyable experience. The guide also explained the tea plucking process, pointed out birds, and knew a good spot for tea halfway up. Don't skip the guide for Ella Rock.
