I saw a TikTok of people swimming with Blue Whales in Mirissa. Can I book this?
I keep seeing viral videos of tourists swimming underwater next to massive Blue Whales in Sri Lanka. I arrived in Mirissa yesterday and asked my hotel, but they said they don't do it.
I found a guy on the beach who says he can take us for $150 USD per person. Is this safe/legal? It looks amazing but I don't want to get in trouble.

Please be very careful here. What you are seeing on TikTok is illegal.
The Law: Swimming with whales is strictly banned in Sri Lanka under the Flora and Fauna Protection Ordinance. You can be fined, and the boat operator can lose their license.
The "Beach Guy" Risk: The operators offering this are often unlicensed "rogue" boats. They chase the whales aggressively to drop you in front of them, which causes the whales massive stress.
Safety: These are wild, 150-ton animals. If a whale feels threatened and dives, the tail fluke can kill a human instantly. There are no safety divers or insurance for these illegal trips.
My Advice: Stick to the official whale watching boats (look for the "W" registration). The view from the deck is spectacular enough without harassing the animals or breaking the law.
