Is Pekoe Trail Stage 12 really closed? Can we hike from Udaweriya to Haputale?

We planned our entire trip around hiking the Pekoe Trail. We are supposed to do Stage 12 (Udaweriya to Haputale) tomorrow, but a local guide told us it's "blocked due to landslides" from the rains last month.

Is this true, or is he just trying to sell us a tuk-tuk ride? Has anyone hiked it this week (Jan 2026)?

Your guide is telling the truth! Do not attempt this stage right now.

Current Status (Jan 2026): Following the heavy Northeast Monsoon rains in December 2025, there was a significant earth slip on the tea estate paths between Udaweriya and Haputale. The trail is unstable and technically closed.

Alternative: You can hike Stage 13 (Haputale to St. Catherine) instead. It starts from Haputale and heads east, and that section is currently clear and safe.

Check the App: Always check the official Pekoe Trail App for real-time "Red/Green" status on stages before you lace up your boots.
