26 Aug, Getambe. Listed start 6:44 PM for the 4th Randoli. Partner. One pair of sandals and a wrap we may not have. Not trying to invent a reserved street. Trying not to melt from four to midnight.

If you want the elephants, stand a kerb that is actually on the route and arrive before the crush, not at 6:44 on the dot. Listed 6:44 PM is a start, not a seat. DS Senanayake Veediya terrace is a sit if they actually sell one, not a rumour. Do not invent a reserved pavement. Hold your feet, water, a snack, closed shoes. Kids last longer one block back.

We stood Getambe from 4:30, drums later. Fine. 6:44 was the listed start, not the first thing we saw.

Kids: one block back. Pride wants the rope and then a tantrum.

Elder: sit a paid terrace if they still have a chair. Standing three hours is a choice.

White shirt hides nothing. Dust is coming. Wear what you can wash.

We sat DS Senanayake Veediya, heard it, saw some. Fine. Not the postcard. Sleep.

Do not cross under ropes because a stranger waves you through.
