Negombo is extremely close to the airport, about 15 to 20 minutes away. Because the distance is so short, the official airport taxi counter sometimes gives a slightly inflated flat rate. Using the PickMe app is the best option. Walk out of the arrivals hall, open the app, and order a car. They will pick you up right outside. It should cost less than 2000 LKR to most Negombo hotels at midnight.
If you have kids and lots of bags and just want zero stress, go to the official taxi counter inside the terminal right before the exit doors. You prepay a fixed amount and they walk you to the car. It might cost 500 LKR more than an app, but at midnight with tired children, the convenience is worth it.
