We are starting our climb at 2 AM. Is a thick sweater enough or do I need a windbreaker jacket.

Yes, you absolutely need a windbreaker or a warm jacket. You will sweat on the way up, but the summit is fully exposed to freezing winds while you wait for the sunrise.
