I am getting conflicting advice from my doctor. Is Sri Lanka currently malaria free, and do I need to take prophylactic medication.

Sri Lanka was officially declared malaria free by the World Health Organization in 2016. You do not need to take malaria pills for your trip. However, dengue fever is present, so you should diligently use mosquito repellent containing DEET to prevent mosquito bites.
