Is USD widely accepted by street vendors and small restaurants, or do I need to convert everything to Sri Lankan Rupees.

While major tourist hotels and upscale gem shops might accept US dollars, local shops, street vendors, and small restaurants only accept Sri Lankan Rupees. It is highly recommended to withdraw local currency from ATMs or exchange your USD at the airport banks for daily spending.
