Is there a risk of malaria on the island currently, or should I only be concerned about dengue fever.

Sri Lanka was officially declared malaria free by the World Health Organization. You do not need to take malaria pills for your travel. However, dengue fever is still present on the island, so you must diligently use strong mosquito repellent containing DEET every day.
