Is there a risk of malaria on the island currently or just dengue fever.

Sri Lanka was officially declared malaria free by the World Health Organization. You do not need to take malaria pills for your travel. However, dengue fever is still present on the island, so you must diligently use strong mosquito repellent containing DEET every day.

Always wear light colored, long sleeved shirts and pants during dusk and dawn when mosquitos are most active, especially near national parks.
