Adam's Peak in Jan 15 - too early in season, or ok?

Season 'officially' starts Dec but I've read the trail can be muddy and hut/tea stall vibes take a few weeks to warm up. Coming Jan 15 - will it be a proper pilgrimage experience or half-empty and rainy?

Jan 15 is fine. Season is properly in swing by then. Tea stalls open, path lit, thousands of pilgrims some nights. It's a Poya-day thing though - if you can time your climb around a Poya (full moon), the atmosphere is unreal. Full moon Jan 2026 is Jan 3 sadly, next one Feb 1. If Jan 15 is fixed, you'll still have a great climb, just not peak-crowd atmosphere.

Trail is dry by mid-Jan generally. It gets muddy again in April at end of season. Bring layers - summit is genuinely cold and windy at 4am. Start climb by 2am for sunrise summit.
