First Esala, two adults, one small backpack. Diya Kapeema is listed 1:28 AM on Friday 28 Aug after Final Randoli. 1:28 AM is too early after Final — skip vs stay. I cannot tell if this is ordinary festival chaos or we are about to pick the stupid option.

We watch from shop steps, not from the first row. On Diya Kapeema the first row people who arrived at 3pm are wrecked before the relic casket. clock-tower island a little back is kinder and you still see the tusker. Diya is a water-cutting ritual at 1:28 AM, not a second Grand Randoli. If you need sleep, skip it and do Dahawal at 2:18 PM. Do not invent a tourist ticket for it. Then tea, then the room.

We came at five for Final Randoli and it was already shoulders on Raja Veediya. clock-tower island still had a gap. Do not copy the 3pm campers unless you like being cooked. Kids change the trade.

I would not enter Sri Dalada Maligawa in the hour before 1:28 AM. Courtyard dress rules plus a filling street is a lot. Watch the street, do the temple in the morning. Call the desk before you guess a late checkout.
