Ambarella (Spondias dulcis, hog plum) is a tropical fruit with crunchy juicy flesh — tart-sweet like green apple crossed with mango. Ripe: yellow-orange, more sweet. Unripe: green, more sour. Eaten with salt+chili powder, or juiced with sugar.

Look for street vendors selling sliced ambarella with salt-chili sprinkle (100-200 LKR per portion). Also fresh ambarella juice at juice stalls. Season: variable, most abundant July-October. Excellent for iron content.
