Ambepussa Rest House (on the main Colombo-Kandy road) is Sri Lanka's oldest continuously operating rest house (founded 1828). Colonial-era single-story stone building, high-ceiling dining room, verandah overlooking gardens. Rice-and-curry lunch here is a heritage tradition; rooms available for overnight.

Lunch stop is the classic use — expect proper Sri Lankan rice-and-curry served on old crockery. Prices reasonable. Not luxurious but atmospheric. Combine with Pinnawala nearby or a Peradeniya Botanical Gardens stop. Book overnight ahead in season.
