Had Anawilundawa Ramsar on the west-coast loop. News mentioned a fire there. Is it under control enough for a short birding stop, or should we skip and go straight to the next beach town.

Reports say the Anawilundawa fire is under control. Call the ticket / visitor contact the morning you go - smoke pockets can linger even after control.

If you smell heavy smoke from the access road, skip without guilt. Wetland birds will still be there another season.

Under control is not the same as a curated boardwalk day. Keep the stop short and have a backup cafe in Puttalam or Negombo.
