Genuine antiques (>100 years old): (1) require export permit under Antiquities Ordinance — check dealer status. (2) show provenance documents (previous owner, dates, verified age). (3) reputable dealers issue certificates. Buy from established dealers (Fort area, some Colombo 07).

Warning signs: 'antique' sold at spice gardens (fake), 'antique' at commissioned tourist stops (fake), extremely low prices for supposedly antique items. For authentic: KaruLanka Antiques, Ranmi Wardhena Gallery — established. Real antiques: substantial cost + paperwork.
