Ants invaded the sugar bowl at guesthouse breakfast — tell the host or just skip sugar?
Charming guesthouse, outdoor breakfast table. Lifted the sugar lid and a line of ants poured over the rim into my tea spoon. Host is lovely and I do not want to insult anyone. Do travelers quietly skip sugar, mention it kindly so they can fix the jar, or is this so normal nobody bothers?

Tell us kindly — we would rather swap a sealed sugar jar than serve ants. Outdoor breakfasts get sugar raids in warm weather; good hosts replace the bowl, wipe the tray, and sometimes move sweets indoors. Skipping sugar for one meal is fine too. I will not invent a pest fee. A calm word helps the next guest. You are not rude for wanting sugar without ants.
Told the host with a smile. Fresh sealed sugar in ten minutes. Tea rescued.
Skipped sugar, used our own honey sachets that morning. Mentioned it later anyway.
Will mention it kindly and accept sealed sugar. Not pretending I did not see them.
