Polonnaruwa has been quieter this week compared to Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura is larger and tends to draw more tour groups. Both are worth visiting but if you're trying to avoid crowds, Polonnaruwa might be the better choice right now. Early morning visits help at both sites regardless. Some people do one in the morning and one in the afternoon to spread things out. The sites are big enough that even with some people around, you can often find quieter areas. This week has been relatively good for avoiding the biggest crowds at both, but Polonnaruwa is feeling more peaceful overall.
Polonnaruwa quieter this week. Both are manageable but Polonnaruwa feels more peaceful right now. Early mornings help at both.
