Anyone actually still doing the Sigiriya climb? Heard about damaged steps.

There was a monsoon news story about the metal staircase being unstable. Coming in Feb, is this a real safety issue or clickbait?

Repairs done in July. Steps are fine. Not clickbait but heavily exaggerated - one small section was damaged, nothing structural. Climbing is normal. Only real concern is heat if you go midday. 6:30am gate opening is the move.

Climbed it 2 weeks ago. Zero issues. The Sri Lanka Tourism Board would close it if it wasn't safe - it's their biggest cultural attraction. That said, if you have a fear of heights the caged catwalk section is a bit alarming regardless of condition. Not for everyone.
