Last night we hunted a plate and got a dry bun. Second Kumbal listed 6:41. Is there still rice steaming on DS Senanayake after the procession, or do we pack bananas and stop pretending Kandy kitchens wait.

If it is not steaming, walk. Lake-side rice shops sometimes still chop late. DS Senanayake is hit or miss after drums. Pack bananas anyway so the hunt is optional.

Kottu stalls that are still chopping are the honest late plate. Quiet rice shops may have already put the lids on.

Ask the stall, not a named-blog list. If the pot is on, sit. If they are wiping tables, bananas.

We packed bread in the Peradeniya room as backup and still found kottu. Backup is what let us walk away from a dead shop.

Vegetarian is easier at a rice shop than at fried kerb snacks. Smell the oil.
