Crocodile Rock is a popular sunset viewpoint and beginner right-hand point break located 4km south of Arugam Bay. Reaching the rock requires walking across a sandbar that separates the open ocean from the inland Pottuvil mangrove lagoon. The lagoon supports wild Mugger Crocodiles (Crocodylus palustris). Surfers and walkers must NEVER wade through dark or murky lagoon waters inland from the beach berm; cross exclusively over the dry ocean sandbar where waves wash across. Avoid the water's edge during dawn and dusk when crocodiles actively hunt along mangrove margins.
