Ask once, calmly, and take the way they point. Walking toward the temple gate after 6:53 is how you meet the already-passed end.

A marshal two streets back told us to stay put. The line was still coming. Asking beat a long wrong walk.

If you get a shrug, watch which way the drums are moving and face that. Do not follow a random crowd.
