Say you are staying for the 6:53 PM start and ask them to extend the same room; have a card ready if the rate changes.

We extended at the morning desk in two minutes; they already had parade guests doing the same, so it was a rate check rather than a negotiation.

If that room is promised to someone else, take any room in the same building rather than moving bags across town in the rain.
