20 Aug, south, leftover rain still on the trees. We are at Nugegoda with day bags. Not extracting a discount. Not paying a brochure number.

Nugegoda is ordinary south. Leftover rain is a day, not a drama. Walk if you have grip and the rain has stopped. Pay a short hop if there is a kid and the path is slick. Agree the fare before you sit.

We walked. Slow. Shoes muddy. Fine.

Zip pockets for monkeys. A biscuit in a child's hand is an invitation.

Harbour morning: no whale is promised. Skip the desk that sells a guarantee.

Reef cuts are real. Beginner peak is a class, not a photo. If the pole goes red, you are out.

Damp rooms after rain are ordinary. Fan, dry sheets. Mattress wet: change. Smell alone is not a hospital.

Write Galle station, not a maybe halt. Pride waits at a halt with children and a story.

Closed shoes on slick cobbles. Sandals at eight is how you meet the clinic.
