I want to do a real Ayurvedic detox in Sri Lanka. Do cultural homestays or authentic retreats actually restrict your diet for wellness.

An authentic Ayurvedic Panchakarma center will strictly control your diet based on your body constitution (dosha). You will eat plain, medicinal foods like Kola Kenda porridge and herbal teas. No alcohol, no meat. If you stay at a regular homestay, they will cook heavily spiced food by default. You must explicitly ask the homestay host for a "plain, oil-free Ayurvedic diet" if you want wellness food.

The authentic diet is very intense. I lost 3 kilos in a week just from the clean eating at a retreat in Kandy.

Make sure you are mentally prepared. Real Ayurveda focuses on medical healing, not luxury pampering.
