Want a halt town, not only a viewpoint town. Bandarawela or Ella for two nights.

Bandarawela if you want a market and a halt. Ella if you want Gap photos and other travelers. Split a night each if the train allows. Do not treat Bandarawela as a failed Ella.

If you are going to the end of the line, Badulla is a third option and quieter still.
