Basic: 'meka keeyada?' (how much is this?), 'ganan pissuvi!' (that's expensive!), 'aada gathiye?' (last price?), 'boru!' (too much, jokingly), 'thowdak passa yanna' (little less please). Smile throughout — bargaining is friendly banter, not fight.

Cultural rule: start at 40-60% of asked price, work up to 60-75%. Fixed price signs mean fixed (rare markets). Groceries at Cargills/Keells no bargaining. Craft markets, tourist markets: bargaining expected. Don't grind for last 100 LKR — good bargain leaves both parties happy.
