Diving HMS Hermes requires clearances from both the Department of Archaeology (she is classified as a historic war grave) and the Sri Lanka Navy Eastern Command. Only certified technical diving outfits based in Batticaloa or Trincomalee can file passenger manifests. Trimix (typically Tx 18/45 or 21/35) and medical-grade booster oxygen must be arranged weeks ahead; helium availability across the Eastern Province is limited and usually shipped from industrial depots in Sapugaskanda.
