Brief Garden (located 8km inland from Bentota in Kalawila) is a world-renowned tropical landscape garden designed by Bevis Bawa (brother of celebrated architect Geoffrey Bawa). Transformed from a rubber plantation starting in 1929, the 2-hectare estate is arranged as a sequence of intimate open-air garden "rooms" interconnected by narrow mossy stone paths, bamboo corridors, and hidden staircases. The design artfully frames vistas of wild bamboo, tropical foliage, reflecting ponds, and homoerotic sculptures created by Bevis and visiting artists like Donald Friend.
