Best shell beaches: Marble Beach in Trincomalee (calm crescent, mixed shells), Kalpitiya lagoon-facing beaches, and stretches around Kalkudah on the east coast. Best time is after a storm or at low tide morning. Avoid Yala coastline (protected national park zone).

LEGAL note — do not take shells that housed protected species (chambered nautilus, giant clam, triton shells, most large helmet shells). Small common bivalves and gastropod shells are fine. Never buy shells at tourist shops — most are from unlicensed collection. Customs at CMB can inspect.

Marble Beach after low tide, sticking to common bivalves. Thanks!
