The best beaches in Sri Lanka for swimming and relaxing are Mirissa, Unawatuna, and Dalawella on the south coast. These areas have protective reefs or natural bays that break the large waves.

Polhena beach in Matara is another incredible spot. The reef keeps the water very shallow and still, and you can often see wild sea turtles swimming right near the shoreline.
