Looking for places that are genuinely eco-friendly (not just greenwashed). Any standout recommendations in different regions?

Good options: 'Jetwing Vil Uyana' (Sigiriya) has excellent sustainability practices, 'Kandalama' (also Jetwing) is iconic, 'The Wallawwa' near Negombo, and smaller places like 'Eco Villa' in Unawatuna or community-based lodges in Sinharaja. Look for places that mention specific initiatives (solar, waste, community support) rather than just using the word 'eco'. Many smaller guesthouses are doing great work quietly.

Jetwing properties and smaller community lodges noted. Will research further.

Ask specific questions when booking: Do they compost? Where does their water come from? Do they employ local staff and buy local food? Genuine places are happy to answer.
