Best Kandy cooking class experience - authentic homecook?
3 Answers from travellers
Ranweli Spice Garden Cooking Class (about 30 min from Kandy) is a household name - visit spice garden, learn to cook rice and curry from scratch, eat together. Also excellent: Sonjas Health Food (Kandy town) does small group classes in her home, or Ella Spice Garden (in Ella but similar spirit). For truly authentic home experience: ask your Kandy guesthouse if the owner's mother/wife would teach a class (2000-5000 LKR, negotiate). Often not advertised but common.
Best class involves market trip first (learn ingredients), then home kitchen 3-4 hours, then eat what you made. Costs 4000-8000 LKR for authentic 4-hour experience. Anything shorter is a cooking demo not a class.
