I want to combine a Shinrin yoku forest bathing experience with photographing the endemic Purple faced Langur. What focal length is best for the thick Sinharaja canopy.

The Sinharaja canopy is incredibly dense and dark, so a fast lens is more important than extreme reach. A 70 to 200mm f2.8 or a 300mm f4 is ideal. Anything longer gets too heavy for mindful walking and requires too much light. For forest bathing, ask your guide to take you to the quieter Morningside trails where you can sit silently and let the monkey troops move naturally around you.

Bring a polarizing filter! The humidity in the rainforest creates a lot of glare on the wet leaves, and a polarizer will cut right through that and make the lush greens pop in your background.

Forest bathing there is amazing but be mindful of the leeches. It is hard to reach a zen state of mind if you are constantly picking them off your ankles. Wear leech socks soaked in salt water.
