I have a strong interest in architecture. Which towns or sites are most rewarding for that?

Galle Fort is the standout for Dutch colonial architecture - you can spend days exploring the streets and buildings. Colombo has a mix of Dutch, British, and modern architecture (especially around the old Fort area and Cinnamon Gardens). Kandy has some interesting British colonial buildings around the lake. Jaffna has a different colonial history with Portuguese, Dutch, and British layers. Hiring a knowledgeable guide who understands architectural history makes a big difference.

Galle Fort is perfect for this interest. Many of the boutique hotels are beautifully restored colonial buildings - staying in one is part of the experience.
