I want to visit some quieter historical or natural sites. Any tips on timing to have them almost to myself?

Early morning (right at opening) or late afternoon is almost always best. For places like Ritigala, Yapahuwa, or lesser-visited tanks and temples, going at opening time (often 6 or 7am) or after 4pm means you'll have the site with minimal or no other tourists. Weekdays are quieter than weekends. Avoid public holidays and Poya days for popular spots. For natural sites, early morning also has better wildlife and light. A good local driver knows the current quiet windows.

We did Ritigala at 7:30am and had it completely to ourselves for over an hour. Magical. Later in the day there were tour groups.
