Converting woody biomass from invasive Mesquite (Prosopis juliflora) or coconut shells via oxygen-limited flame-curtain kilns (Kon-Tiki design) at 550-650°C yields stable, high-porosity biochar. The raw biochar must be "charged" or inoculated by steeping it in aged cow dung slurry, compost tea, or anaerobic bio-fertilizers for two weeks before soil incorporation to prevent it from binding existing soil nitrogen.
Uncharged raw biochar tilled directly into dry soils acts as a sponge for soil nutrients, stunting crop growth throughout the initial growing cycle.
Eradicating and charring invasive Prosopis brush cleans up cattle grazing savannahs while restoring degraded agricultural lands.
