Is it possible to take a boat out to the sandbanks that connect Sri Lanka to India?

Yes! You can take a Navy-operated boat tour from Talaimannar out to the sandbanks (Rama's Bridge). It's a surreal, windy landscape with crystal clear shallow water and lots of migratory birds.

The boat ride is a bit bumpy, and there isn't much to "do" on the sandbank itself besides take photos and feel the isolation, but it's geographically fascinating.

Excellent, I will make sure my passport is in my dry bag. Thanks.

Make sure you bring your passport! Since it is a sensitive international border area with India, the Navy checks IDs before letting anyone on the boat.
