Bringing my nice camera. Do I actually need the drone permit thing?

Just a Sony A7. No drone. Everything I read talks about drones but nothing clear about DSLRs. Am I overthinking this?

You're overthinking. DSLRs/mirrorless for personal use = no permit, no declaration. Walk right through with your Sony. Drone permits are separate and only apply if you have a drone. Even for commercial photo shoots (fashion, film) the permit is via a different process. Personal photographer? Zero paperwork.

^ correct. The only friction is if you have obvious commercial-scale gear (like 3 bodies, 8 lenses in Pelican cases). Then customs might ask. For an A7 + a couple lenses, you're a tourist. Snap away.
