Yes, several forest monasteries welcome foreigners for short (7-30 day) anagarika (novice, white robes) or bhikkhu (full monk, saffron robes) trial periods. Monasteries: Nissarana Vanaya, Meetirigala Nissarana Vanaya, and forest sub-schools. English-speaking abbot is critical — enquire ahead.

Life inside: 3:30am wake, 8+ hours meditation, one meal before noon, no dinner, complete silence at times, no phone, celibacy, no entertainment. Very serious — not a novelty. Some monasteries require prior meditation experience. Free (dana donation appreciated).
