We took the local bus from Pettah to our hostel The conductor charged us 500 LKR for our backpacks but locals did not pay for luggage Scam

If your backpacks were large like 60L plus and took up a physical seat or blocked the aisle it is standard CTB policy to charge for an extra passenger seat However 500 LKR for a short local trip is too high He definitely overcharged the seat fare Always ask for the printed machine ticket they cannot fake the price on the printout

It is just a few dollars sometimes it is easier to just pay it rather than fighting on a hot moving bus

If you keep your bag on your lap they cannot charge you anything
