Yes, female tourists are absolutely allowed to speak to Buddhist monks. However, there are strict cultural boundaries. A woman should never initiate physical contact with a monk, such as shaking hands, and should always maintain a respectful physical distance when conversing.

If you wish to ask a question, approach politely, keep your voice low, and ensure your shoulders and knees are fully covered. Monks are generally very highly educated and many speak excellent English and will happily discuss the temple history with you.
